Why is APMEX more expensive?

APMEX charges higher premiums (markups over spot price) than budget-focused competitors like SD Bullion or JM Bullion, sometimes 3-7% higher on common silver products.

This reflects several factors: a massive inventory of over 20,000 products including rare numismatics and exclusive releases, established reputation and BBB accreditation, guaranteed buyback liquidity, and strong customer service.

Credit card and PayPal payments also run roughly 4% higher than wire or check payments, since APMEX passes along card processing fees.

For collectors seeking rare or hard to find items, the premium is often justified. For investors buying standard bullion, cheaper alternatives usually exist.
