Advisor departures from Edward Jones are running at a five-year high, with attrition hitting 6.1% in late 2025, up from 4.7% a year earlier. Advisors with at least 10 years at the firm made up 35% of departures in 2025, up from 21% in 2021.
Most cite wanting more control: ownership of their book of business, better technology, broader product access, and freedom to run their practice their own way. Independent broker dealers like LPL, Raymond James, and Ameriprise have absorbed the largest share of these departures.
Some clients also leave after their advisor exits, since they’re reassigned to unfamiliar replacements and can face account closing fees.
