In early 2026, several buyers on Reddit's r/Silverbugs and other review sites reported receiving counterfeit silver bars that failed authentication testing, alongside slow refunds and poor customer service.
APMEX is a large, established dealer that mostly sources directly from mints, but it also handles secondary market and buyback material, which carries higher counterfeit risk.
Most collectors consider isolated incidents rather than systemic fraud.
Bottom line: independently test or authenticate any silver purchase, regardless of dealer, especially higher value bars or ancient/world coins.
